My Love for Oil

What a stressful week it has been… I feel like I just got off the Top Thrill Dragster. This week, I’ve gone up and down, I’ve been rolled, tossed, slammed, hugged, cuddled, congratulated and celebrated. Yeah, it’s just been one of THOSE weeks in my (sometimes) crazy but simply amazing life. Have you ever had one of those weeks? I’ve had a few, but this one for some reason, just seemed crazier than usual. So during this week, I did a lot of fun stuff too, and I discovered that I have a very well-kept (or maybe not) secret… my love for oil. Let me explain.

So on weeks like this, I try to do something that I enjoy, because it helps me regain a somewhat sense of balance (or should I say sanity?). A few things I do is 1- Workout (out of the picture this week) 2- Create a new recipe (also out of the picture this week) or 3- I blog… yes, I blog and that is what I’m going to do today. What will I blog about today you might ask? Well… I am going to blog about oil. Yes, you read it! Oil is the theme for today.

A few weeks ago, a good friend of mine referred me to Tropical Traditions to blog about their awesome organic coconut oil. I went ahead and contacted the company and to my surprise, a few days later there was a box sitting in my front porche. I wasn’t surprised that the box was there, but what I was surprised about, was the size of the box. I figured that they’d send me a small jar to sample their oil, but nope, they didn’t do that. Instead, they sent me a freaking HUGE 32 ounce jar of amazingly, delicious, delectable, incredible coconut oil. I love, love, LOVE and did I mention LOVE coconut oil!

I will give a few precautions about coconut oil though. It IS  a saturated fat, so it should be used in moderation. However, there are several health benefits to this wonderful, tasteful and delicious oil. Experts say that It contains something called “lauric acid” which is a medium chain triglyceride and this is actually a GOOD thing, because according to research, lauric acid helps lower HDL cholesterol, (also known as the bad cholesterol). I have also read that it helps people with diabetes, it promotes a healthy metabolism and helps with weight loss. I have friends who are bodybuilders who use it consistently and will even add it to their coffee (I haven’t done that yet).

So now back to the subject of this amazing brand of coconut oil. What I love about it, is that it’s organic, non-refined so it has that delicious coconutty flavor (I made that word up, I know). I use about a 1/4 tsp on my sweet potatoes and a bit of salt, or I use it with popcorn. You can use it for baking in place of butter, and their website even has some amazing recipes, PLUS they sell grass fed beef and other stuff there. Their customer service is awesome too and they seem very organized. What’s in it for me? Nothing, really, other than that awesome 32 ounce jar of coconut oil that I received. I am a fan for ife. Click here for their website. Tropical Traditions gets my vote. 🙂
